VeriTouch licenses Motorola voice verification technology
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., March 31, 2000 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has licensed its CipherVOX voice verification technology to VeriTouch Ltd., a privately held, leading developer of biometric security systems. CipherVOX is an advanced, integrated software algorithm that allows unique patterns of the users voice to be registered and used to authenticate during real time verification challenges.
Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, VeriTouch will develop a new 32-bit Software Developers Kit (SDK) and add new enhancements to Motorolas existing voice engine. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
VeriTouch, a pioneer in the development of advanced biometric technology solutions, has already integrated the CipherVOX engine into Cerner Corporations (NASDAQ: CERN) HNA Millennium® Clinical Information System as a biometric logon for physicians and support staff. Motorolas customers have been asking for this technology to be made useful in the medical arena.
CipherVOX will also be a featured component of VeriTouchs forthcoming vr-5 (RF) RFID system, expected to be the worlds first wireless Voice and Fingerprint Verification Terminal with a three-meter range between RFID tag and receiver.
The system is being developed in partnership with Cerner Corporation for one of the largest HMOs in the United States for its nationwide network of clinics and hospitals. The robust nature of the CipherVOX module allows for embedding the system into telephony, LAN and mobile wireless applications for securing access to financial, healthcare and corporate information systems including Web based service provider networks.
"VeriTouch expects to build the worlds best voice verification engine into a robust developers platform to embed into a multitude of next generation handheld devices and applications", said VeriTouch CEO Gary E. Brant. "Voice biometrics has much to offer with especially low infrastructure requirements for deployment in large organizations. We look at this agreement with Motorola as a win-win to introduce the best of breed in voice technology for the benefit of our existing and new customers worldwide."
"Motorola is looking at licensing our technologies where we can find strategic business partners that will take our technologies and develop healthy markets for them," said Keith Bergelt, Director and General Manager of Motorola's Strategic Intellectual Asset Management. "In the past if we had no immediate need for a new technology we simply warehoused it, today we are actively licensing such technologies to the benefit of other companies, consumers and Motorolas shareholders."
